The Many Benefits of Cosmetic Surgery and What It Can Do for You

AboutFacesCosmeticSurgeryBenefits

With summer coming, it’s common for people to be motivated to look better, to prepare for all those summer pool parties, cookouts, and trips to the beach: however, looking younger and healthier is a good idea any time of year.

If you’re unfamiliar with all the cosmetic options available that will take years off your appearance, here’s a short list of the most popular procedures and their beneficial results. All are offered by Dr. Mikel Lo at About Faces Cosmetic Surgery & Med Spa.

Facelift and Neck Lift
A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reduces sagging skin on the face, cheeks, and jawline and removes loose skin while tightening tissue around the jowls and lower face. A neck lift is often performed as part of our facelift procedures. All our procedures are performed at our in-office surgical suite giving patients a tranquil and private surgical experience. Depending on the patient’s comfort level, the facelift procedure can be performed under IV sedation or local anesthesia. Everyone heals differently but most patients can expect the majority of post-operative swelling to resolve within 2-weeks,  leaving you with a rejuvenated look that will continue to improve.

Brow Lift

If your forehead looks heavy, your eyebrows droop, you have deep lines between the brows or on the forehead, or you have excess skin or hooding on the upper eyelids, you may be a candidate for a brow lift. Both men and women can start to notice their brows sag in their 40s however younger patients can benefit from a brow lift if they are genetically predisposed to deep, heavy brows.

Facial Fat Transfer

If you’re looking for a minimally invasive procedure, then consider a facial fat transfer. The natural aging process slows the production of collagen and elastin making our skin sag. As we age, muscles weaken and change the underlying structure of the face. A facial fat transfer can add volume back to the face. Men or women ages 30+ are ideal candidates for Facial Fat Transfer.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

The natural aging process and our own genetic makeup can contribute to excess eyelid skin and heavy, hooded eyelids. Thinning skin, crepiness and puffiness of the upper eyelid can make us appear older than our true age or even look angry or tired. The upper eyelid blepharoplasty procedure can correct eyelid function,  as well as enhance a  younger look.  If you feel your eyes make you look tired, or you are frustrated with heavy upper eyelids, you may be a candidate for an upper eyelid lift. An upper eyelid lift with Dr. Lo, who specializes  in ophthalmic cosmetic surgery, can rejuvenate your eyes and upper face giving you a more youthful look.

Lower Eyelid Bags

Dark circles, loose skin,  bulging under the eye can make us look tired or older than our true age. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty, or eye bag surgery, is a procedure that helps restore and refresh your lower eyelids, smooth and eliminate under eye bags, reduce and fill dark circles, and improve wrinkles and crepey skin under and in the corners of the eyes, while creating a natural transition from lower eyelid to cheek.

Ptosis or Droopy Eyelids

Eyelid ptosis (pronounced “toe-sis”) is drooping of the upper eyelid. It is caused by a separation of the inside muscle of the eyelid from its natural attachment, which lifts the eyelid. One or both of the upper eyelids may droop slightly or cover the entire pupil. This drooping of the upper eyelid can cause a tired or sleepy appearance, facial asymmetry, and reduced vision. Eyelid ptosis repair corrects drooping upper eyelids. Ptosis repair will refresh your look with a vibrant and more youthful appearance.

Choosing the Right Surgeon

Beyond checking for a license by a state medical board, you’ll want to make sure that the surgeon you go to is specifically trained in the procedure you want, according to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. Questions you might ask include:

  • What is your training in this procedure?

  • How many years have you been performing this procedure?

  • How many times have you performed this procedure?

You may also want to take a look at  before and after photos, paying particular attention to patients who have similar qualities to you (don’t feel shy about taking a selfie to your cosmetic surgery consultation to refer to).

Ask Questions

Each time you consult with your cosmetic surgeon, think of it as a job interview and come fully prepared with a list of questions to ask, face to face. Write the questions down, so you don’t forget to ask something. Your cosmetic surgeon should be comfortable answering any question you have.
